Mary is still in New Jersey, and I’m still fending off a cold that keeps wanting to turn into something else, even though I won’t let it. (It’s not Covid — I tested. And it’s not the flu. It’s just an asshole of a cold).

I was feeling well enough that my youngest son and I headed to author/editor/publisher Stephen Kozeniewski’s house for a New Year’s Eve party last night. It’s so strange that he and Somer Canon’s boys used to be the little kids at these gatherings, and now the little kids are the children of author like Wesley Southard and Matt Wildasin, and our little kids are now full grown adults.

With Mary still in Jersey, in truth, had it just been me attending, I would have opted to stay home and dose myself on more NyQuil. But given that the kiddo has five months until graduation and then he heads off to college, I didn't want to disappoint him. Given that I was on cold meds, my drinking was limited to four Sambucas, one champagne, and one Knob Creek bourbon.

One thing I learned last night is that Wes and Koz and a few other friends don’t read this daily blog, because they had no idea about the warehouse roof first springing a leak and then caving in.

But never mind all that. Kiddo and I made it home safely this morning. I just dropped him off at his mom’s. Now Im going to dose myself with some NyQuil, catch up on some rest and see if I can’t wake up with this cold sent on its way, and then spend the afternoon writing.

Happy New Year.
