Back home for a week, and intend to make the most of it, with a focus (hopefully) on the first draft of ONE-EYED MONSTER (novel I’m co-writing with Laurel Hightower), and some Scares That Care-related stuff, including the next round of Guests of Honor for next year’s AuthorCon VII.

The trailer for our new feature film, DEAD FORMAT, will get a sneak peek at Genre Blast Film Festival next weekend. Rochelle thought she knew the man she loved. She trusted Tevyn with her heart. Her future. Even enough to help him pull one last robbery inside a house in North Philly that should've been empty. It wasn't.
The deeper they make it into the house, the stranger things become. The walls seem to know Tevyn's secrets. Voices call out things Rochelle was never supposed to hear. Every locked door uncovers another piece of a double life her boyfriend spent months hiding.
Now she doesn't know what's more terrifying... The house that refuses to let them leave. Or the man she's been sleeping beside.
Some secrets die with people. Others wait behind the wrong door...
If your first thought upon reading that back cover synopsis is, “Hmmm… that sounds kinda like URBAN GOTHIC” — no, it’s not. My novel was an extreme horror novel about white flight and white teenagers appropriating black culture, who run afoul of mutants deep underground who have been there for generations, even since before Philadelphia was founded. Nycole B’s Wrong Door is a deeply creepy, masterfully suspenseful horror novella that starts as a crime thriller and then turns into psychological horror and possibly a ghost story, before ultimately veering into a surrealistic nightmare.
An indie title, it is currently holding solid on Amazon’s Black & African American Horror Fiction alongside such mainstream stalwarts as Tananarive Due, Victor LaValle, and Matt Ruff, and with good reason. It’s a fun page-turner that you can read in a day. This is the first thing I’ve read by her, but Nycole B excels at the novella format (which I’ve long argued is the perfect length for a horror story).
