History Is Not That Long Ago

My grandmother turns 100 this Saturday. She’s the same age as The Great Gatsby, five years older than the 19th Amendment (which gave women the right to vote), and she’s lived through and witnessed major events and human history such as the Great Depression, World War Two, the end of Segregation and Jim Crow, Sputnik and the Moon Landing, Vietnam, the collapse of the USSR, the inventions of television and the internet, cloning, 9/11, and even the Kardashians.

Her mother, my great-grandmother, who passed away when I was in my twenties, lived to 98, and had living memories of America’s post Civil War period and Westward Expansion.

These events seem so long ago, when we learn about them, or watch a documentary about them, but when you consider them through my grandmother’s eyes, they are things she witnessed, experienced, and lived though.

History is not that long ago.

And when you consider that, consider also that it is said that history is doomed to be repeated by those who don’t remember it. But we have now reached the point where recent history is not only forgotten — it is outright challenged or met with disbelief, because some idiot saw a video on TikTok or YouTube that told them otherwise.

My now oldest son and my great-grandmother. He’s an adult now, in his thirties, but this seems like yesterday. As I said, history is not that long ago,

My pal Wrath James White wrote an excellent essay about the morons trying to market AI-CSA under the Extreme Horror banner, and how the community should come together to kick their ass. Read his essay here.

Three Chinese astronauts are stranded in space.

My pal C Robert Cargill had some excellent first-hand thoughts yesterday on the gender inequality that still exists in the film industry.

I’ve begun posting my appearance schedule for next year. You can find it here. I intend to cut way back for 2026. Like David Bowie, I know when to go out and when to stay in, and get things done.

And finally, look at this asshole.
