I bought this Sirius SUPH1 unit back in 2005, and my wife (now ex-wife but still dear friend) gave me this Bose unit as a gift that same year. Amazingly, both of them still work like they are brand new. In an era of cheap, disposable home electronics designed to function for five years and then choke a landfill somewhere on the outskirts of a suburban neighborhood, these two old dogs just keep on trucking. (And yes, as evidenced by the picture, I need to dust in my office this week).

I bring all of this up because I was astonished that I didn’t lose signal yesterday or today, despite the foot of snow and ice the satellite radio antenna (which threads out the window, snakes along the roof, and is mounted atop the chimney) is buried under.

Much of this morning is going to be spent shoveling, and after that, I’ve got a bunch of Vortex and eBay orders to take to the post office. Overall, the storm wasn’t nearly as bad here as it was predicted to be. No power outages. The roads are sketchy if you don’t have a four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, but I suspect they’ll be cleared later today. Other places definitely got hit harder. 13,000 flight cancellations. 800,000 homes without power. If you are in one of those places, I hope you are safe and warm. Hang in there.

I got a surprise, mid-storm yesterday. I looked out at the front porch to see where we were at with snowfall amounts, and saw one set of cat prints crossing the yard. There’s a new feral outside. Don’t know it was just passing through or if it’s looking for a place to live. I hope and pray it’s not pregnant or doesn’t have a litter hidden somewhere. I made swordfish for dinner last night. After Mary and I were done I put the scraps outside. No footprints around them this morning, so I’m guessing the cat was either just passing through, or it is hunkered down somewhere waiting to come out later.
