Daily Journal 1/23/26
Hit the grocery store yesterday, and stocked both Casa Keenegiovanni, and the household of my youngest son and his mother up on groceries, so that none of us will starve or have to venture out during Death Blizzard 2026. (I know that The Weather Channel is calling it Winter Storm Fern, but Winter Storm Fern is a direct contradiction of the breathless apocalyptic reporting coming out of The Weather Channel itself. I submit that Death Blizzard 2026 is more fitting).
Both of my sons and I are taking Mary to see Return to Silent Hill (her favorite franchise) this afternoon, followed by dinner. Sort of an early birthday celebration since she and I won’t be able to visit her family this weekend. Then, after the boys both head home, I reckon we’ll hunker down, and see if it’s really going to be as bad as they say it is, or if it was all much ado about nothing.

As discussed here last year, Baker & Taylor is shutting down. NPR has an article about how it will impact libraries and booksellers, but I think the article is vastly understating things. As David J. Schow said late last night, “A foundational Jenga block has just been pulled out of the pile, analogous to the shutdown of comic book distributor Diamond declaring bankruptcy last year before being acquired by Alliance Entertainment.” He’s not wrong folks, and indeed, the one-two punch of Diamond and Baker & Taylor combined with tariff uncertainty, shipping delays, and a weakening economy is going to have snowballing repercussions throughout 2026 and into 2027. Buckle up.

This is the big story in UFOlogy this morning, and I’ve already had a few folks text or email to ask if this is what Mary and I saw (as recounted in my book THE TRIANGLE OF BELIEF, which you can get here).
My answer is… sort of. It’s hard to get a sense of scale from the video, but going on what is offered, I would say that the triangles that flew over our house were much larger than this. This thing looks like the size of a plane. The ones we saw were the size of … maybe not an aircraft carrier (although possibly, since much of their bodies blended with the dark), but certainly equivalent to a destroyer or troop transport. (I’m using U.S. Naval comparisons because that’s my personal frame of reference). And while we did see lights, they weren’t those big bright lights in the picture. More like tiny running lights. Very muted.

Okay, shortened work day due to the movie tonight, and I still need to write and record a podcast, so I’m off to the mill. Have a great day!
