Daily Journal 12/29/25

By 10am yesterday, I’d gotten in some solid hours of writing, and decided to head over to the store, with a quick stop by the warehouse to pick up and send some shipments.

That was the plan, at least.

Upon arrival at the warehouse, I found out the roof had begun leaking overnight. The resulting flood took out two entire shelves of books — basically Steve Gerlach, Greg Gifune, Christopher Golden, and J.F. Gonzalez. The books by Jesus were all the newer Midnight Library trade paperback editions, and since Midnight Library is an imprint of Manhattan On Mars, those are easy enough to replace. The books by Chris that got damaged were trade hardcovers of Ararat and Dead Ringers. I have dozens more of each in stock, so not a total loss, but it sucks to throw away several hundred dollars worth of water-damaged, swollen-up-like-Patrick-Tomlinson’s-ego merchandise. The Gifune stuff was limited editions and paperbacks which I’d not yet had the opportunity to list on the store’s website. Same goes for the Gerlach books, which took the biggest hit and were a total loss.

I spent a couple of hours throwing away waterlogged books and moving shelving and products out from underneath the leak. Workers are supposed to call today to arrange a time to get out there and work on it.

Rest of the afternoon was spent boxing and transporting leftover stock from the store to another store. (I think I mentioned yesterday that I’ve arranged various buyers for various leftover stock — mostly one-off items that we won’t be selling on the Vortex online platform).

Then I got back home, recorded this video for Patreon (which is not behind the Paywall, so everyone can watch it if you are so inclined). And then I wrote some more. Finally, around 6pm, I made myself dinner (salmon stuffed with crab meat and asparagus) and then did my daily run through Fallout 76.

Clearly, Dallas was exhausted vicariously through me.

Mail call this past weekend included a surprise package from friend and fellow writer Meghan Arcuri, and my contributor copies from Pandi Press.

Today’s work schedule is as follows:

  1. FALLING ANGELS: THE LABYRINTH Book 4

  2. AuthorCon VI programming schedule

  3. Post office run

  4. Meet up with workers at the warehouse and let them in so they can fix my roof.
