Daily Journal 1/20/26
Yesterday was magic, production-wise. A very good first full day of a first full week back at full time writing. Was in my office and at my desk by 7am (after the normal morning rituals). Worked until 5pm. In that time, I finished half of a new short story, half a chapter of FALLING ANGELS, and a pitch for a publisher. I also got deadlines scheduled for two more upcoming projects, and of course, posted the daily Patreon content.
They say you should get up and move around every hour or, even better, every half hour. I drink a cup of coffee about every 30 minutes, so very half hour, I am getting up and moving — from the desk to the coffee pot. To do this, I have to move Dallas, whom as we saw in last Sunday’s newsletter, is very happy with my new schedule.
So, every half hour, I dislodge the cat, stand up and walk across the opffice, pour myself another cup of coffee, and then return to the desk.
And every half hour, at the end of this ritual, I find this waiting for me.
I am very proud to accomplish anything under these working conditions.

All the news is terrible, so here’s a story that’s not. For the first time in recorded history, a young coyote survived swimming frigid, shark-infested water and set foot on Alcatraz Island.
