Butterfly Hangover
I am not usually one to have hangovers because I hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, and also because I know where my tolerance level is with various things, and tend not to overdo it. Except for Kentucky Bourbon, which I can pretty much drink all night and stay even-keeled. But, given that granddaddy was a bootlegger, I guess that’s just genetic.
But my gosh, I am feeling one this morning, thanks to a bottle of Luna Bloom Butterfly Pea Flower Gin.
And look, that gin wasn’t even supposed to be for me. See, what happened was this. Yesterday, Laurel Hightower flew in from Kentucky, and Frank Reardon flew in from North Carolina, and Beau Johnson flew in from Canada, because they are signing at Vortex this afternoon. We have Beau settled ine one cabin, and Laurel and Frank settled in the other. And last night, after Mary was done working, we all met up over at Laurel and Frank’s cabin to hang out and talk shop. And Todd and Erica Keisling joined us. In anticipation of that group, we hit a liquor store, where Laurel got a bottle of Jameson, and I got a bottle of Basil Hayden’s, and then decided to get a bottle of gin for Erica. I know nothing about gin, so I went with Luna Bloom Butterfly Pea Flower because it was purple and the bottle looked pretty and it wasn’t too cheap or too expensive.
What Erica found out last night, much to our delight, was that the purple gin changes colors depending on what you mix it with. Ice or water, for example, turns it blue in your glass. And the temperature of the mixer will also contribute. The ice made it go deep blue. Bottled water produced a Windex color.
So, naturally, I had to experiment with different additives and mixers, to see what colors it would produce. And then I had to drink those experiments, because to not do so would be wasteful. At one point I mixed the gin with my bourbon, and the gin just turned bourbon colored.
Anyway… if you are in or near Central Pennsylvania, come see Laurel and Beau today. We’ll have plenty of books for sale. You can also bring books from home to be signed.
