Janitors vs. The Living Dead by Michelle Garza and Melissa Lason

Splatterpunk at its absolute finest — Janitors vs. The Living Dead is sort of like the hybrid literary spawn of Dan O’Bannon’s Return of the Living Dead and my own The Rising, with just a smidgen of Slither or Stephen Kozeniewski’s The Hematophages for good measure. It is a relentless, rollicking read that kicks into high gear within the first few pages and never slows down. Michelle and Melissa (the Sisters of Slaughter) do a masterful job of combining action, gore, and social commentary, and come up with some beautiful and unique wordplay to describe the grossness of it all — not an easy feat given the number of zombie novels that have been published over the last twenty-five years.
If you’ve not yet read the Sisters of Slaughter, this is the perfect introduction. If you’re jaded and think a zombie novel can’t surprise you anymore, this one will prove you wrong. If you’re looking for a fun weekend read that will have you exclaiming out loud and punching the air as you grin, look no further.
