The Stall & A FZS Update

68620_539262062768238_206257358_n (2)On Saturday, I went over to the Reel Splatter Studios to record a voice-over for Mike Lombardo’s new Lovecraftian horror film, THE STALL, in which I play a disc jockey. (If you’ve yet to sample Mike’s work, I highly recommend SUBURBAN HOLOCAUST, in which I also appear).

I got to the recording session early, and had the opportunity to watch while Brooklyn hip-hop artists Papa Sim and Duss Smitto (both of whom are also in the movie) recorded some audio, as well. We all hung out for a while, and then after Papa and Duss headed back to NYC, Mike and I discussed Drunken Tentacle stuff.

Speaking of which, we’ve hit some snags with FAST ZOMBIES SUCK. We’re discussing the feasibility of re-shooting a few scenes, or perhaps shooting one additional scene. Nothing will be decided until the next group meeting, and I don’t foresee that taking place until after the holidays. What this means for you is that the movie won’t be out on DVD in January as previously speculated. But it will be out sometime next year.

SINISTER (and other movie news)

MV5BMjI5MTg1Njg0Ml5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNzg2Mjc4Nw@@._V1._SY317_Sinister comes out this weekend. I encourage all of you to go see it. Twice. Sinister is written by my friends C. Robert Cargill and Scott Derrickson, who are also behind the big-screen adaptation of my novel Darkness On The Edge Of Town. Please show them your support.

Updates on my movie stuff: Ghoul and Fast Zombies Suck will be out on DVD in January. Dark Hollow starts filming next Spring. Darkness On The Edge Of Town, Castaways, The Cage, and The Siqqusim Who Stole Christmas are all in development (the latter under the title Who Shot Santa?) FAST ZOMBIES SUCK – On The Set (UPDATED)

After months of pre-production, Drunken Tentacle Productions (an indie film company founded by myself, Jeff Heimbuch, Mike Lombardo, Matthew Blazi, Mike Antonio, and Dave Thomas) shot and wrapped our first film this weekend. Fast Zombies Suck is based on my short story of the same title. It stars Karin Crighton and the aforementioned Matt Blazi. We hope to finish post-production and have it available on DVD by December (probably right around the same time as Ghoul’s DVD release).

I’d like to thank all the fans and readers who showed up early Saturday morning to serve as extras (as well as the folks who just hung out on the sidelines and watched). I know it was a long day, and hot as hell, but you guys were so patient and wonderful and enthusiastic, and I can’t tell you how much all of the crew appreciated your help. Extra special props to the extras that were out in the field with me — we survived attacks by bees and green lady bugs! I’d also like to thank fellow authors J.F. Gonzalez and Geoff Cooper. J.F. was gracious enough to serve as an extra, and Coop served double duty as medical staff and firearm safety expert.

Hundreds of official pics from the set are on the Drunken Tentacle Facebook page. For those of you without Facebook, here are a few of my favorite pics from the weekend. Continue reading

Zombies Wanted!

Filming begins next weekend on Fast Zombies Suck (a film based on my short story of the same title). We’re looking for extras to appear as zombies in the zombie walk scene on Saturday, August 11th in East Petersburg, PA. Come dressed as you would for any other zombie walk. If you’re available, and want to be in the movie, please email Jeff at jeff@bamferproductions.com

New Movie News

Director Paul Campion (The Devil’s Rock) is presenting his plan for the big screen adaptation of Dark Hollow at the Fantasia International Film Festival today. Cross your fingers and hope for the production to get a green light. Paul will be posting live updates to the Dark Hollow movie Facebook page, so make sure you “Like” it so you don’t miss the news if and when it breaks. I won’t be posting the news here, because…

…I’ll be heading to New York later today for a meeting tomorrow morning regarding potential film adaptations of The Rising and Dead Sea. Now… don’t get all worked up yet. The Rising has been optioned several times, but has never managed to get off the ground. Maybe things will be different this time, but it’s way too early to celebrate.

Hopefully, I’ll also return from New York with some news on a DVD release date for Ghoul. If you haven’t yet, make sure you snag one of these limited edition collectible screenplay and storyboard books from the Ghoul movie, which ship next week, signed by me.

Finally, the film adaptation of Fast Zombies Suck begins shooting in Central PA in just a few weeks. We will be putting out a call for extras very soon, so if you’ve ever wanted to play a zombie in a Brian Keene movie (or in this case, play a person playing a zombie at a zombie walk in a Brian Keene movie) stay tuned.

For those keeping track, that leaves us with Ghoul and The Ties That Bind both having been filmed, Fast Zombies Suck in production, and Dark Hollow, Castaways, Darkness on the Edge of Town, The Cage, and The Siqqusim Who Stole Christmas in development.

Blowing Your Brains Out At 110psi

While I signed books at The York Emporium this past weekend, the rest of the Drunken Tentacle Crew tested the “Blood Cannon” in preparation for Fast Zombies Suck, which begins shooting next month. We can now make brains fly out of heads at 110psi. Details here.

Thanks to everyone who came out for yesterday’s signing. Some folks drove from as far away as Boston, Michigan, and North Carolina, which is mind-bogglingly awesome. Sorry I was so out of it there at the end. My fever had spiked and that second head growing out of my neck had swollen to the size of a golf ball. I would have stayed, but others made a command decision to get me out of there and seek medical treatment. I’m happy to report no fever this morning, and the swelling has gone down considerably.

FAST ZOMBIES SUCK – Meet the Stars

KarinCrighton443-676-2818 (2)As previously announced, Drunken Tentacle Productions’ first short film will be an adaptation of my short story “Fast Zombies Suck” (which you can listen to for free here). Filming begins in August. Today, you get to meet our stars.

Karin Crighton has been working on her zombie action plan almost as long as she’s been acting. A graduate of the Towson University theatre arts program, she performs with Iron Crow Theatre Company. Recent credits include The Soldier Dreams, California Suite, Swimming in the Shallows, and Sealed Fates.

Matthew Blazi has played iconic zombies in George Romero’s Land of the Dead and Survival of the Dead, but this will be his first time playing a zombie killer. A member of the Drunken Tentacle team, Matt is a father of two, and enjoys reading and NASCAR.

A Report From The Casting Couch

Director Jeff Heimbuch, Star Matthew Blazi, FX Director Mike Lombardo, and Key Grip J.F. Gonzalez

Director Jeff Heimbuch, Actor Matthew Blazi, Special Effects Designer Mike Lombardo, and Key Grip J.F. Gonzalez

This weekend, I worked a little bit on The Lost Level and the script for The Last Zombie: Before the After #2. But mostly, I worked in my role as executive producer of Fast Zombies Suck – the first film from Drunken Tentacle Productions. An executive producer basically does two things — finance and bankroll the majority of the project, and make sure all the trains are running on time.
