Following Your Dreams, or “What I Learned From Brian Keene” (Guest Blog by Jeff Heimbuch)

rollyCover_original (2)Jeff Heimbuch is the director of The Ties That Bind, Leeds Point, and Fast Zombies Suck, and one of the founding partners in my film production company, Drunken Tentacle Productions. He’s also just written a book — It’s Kind Of A Cute Story — that will appeal to Disney-philes young and old. He’s here to tell you that, and the truth about me…

Brian Keene changed my life.

It sounds like he paid me to say that, but it’s true (the life changing, not the paying me to say that part). Continue reading

FAST ZOMBIES SUCK – On The Set (UPDATED)

After months of pre-production, Drunken Tentacle Productions (an indie film company founded by myself, Jeff Heimbuch, Mike Lombardo, Matthew Blazi, Mike Antonio, and Dave Thomas) shot and wrapped our first film this weekend. Fast Zombies Suck is based on my short story of the same title. It stars Karin Crighton and the aforementioned Matt Blazi. We hope to finish post-production and have it available on DVD by December (probably right around the same time as Ghoul’s DVD release).

I’d like to thank all the fans and readers who showed up early Saturday morning to serve as extras (as well as the folks who just hung out on the sidelines and watched). I know it was a long day, and hot as hell, but you guys were so patient and wonderful and enthusiastic, and I can’t tell you how much all of the crew appreciated your help. Extra special props to the extras that were out in the field with me — we survived attacks by bees and green lady bugs! I’d also like to thank fellow authors J.F. Gonzalez and Geoff Cooper. J.F. was gracious enough to serve as an extra, and Coop served double duty as medical staff and firearm safety expert.

Hundreds of official pics from the set are on the Drunken Tentacle Facebook page. For those of you without Facebook, here are a few of my favorite pics from the weekend. Continue reading

Zombies Wanted!

Filming begins next weekend on Fast Zombies Suck (a film based on my short story of the same title). We’re looking for extras to appear as zombies in the zombie walk scene on Saturday, August 11th in East Petersburg, PA. Come dressed as you would for any other zombie walk. If you’re available, and want to be in the movie, please email Jeff at jeff@bamferproductions.com

Blowing Your Brains Out At 110psi

While I signed books at The York Emporium this past weekend, the rest of the Drunken Tentacle Crew tested the “Blood Cannon” in preparation for Fast Zombies Suck, which begins shooting next month. We can now make brains fly out of heads at 110psi. Details here.

Thanks to everyone who came out for yesterday’s signing. Some folks drove from as far away as Boston, Michigan, and North Carolina, which is mind-bogglingly awesome. Sorry I was so out of it there at the end. My fever had spiked and that second head growing out of my neck had swollen to the size of a golf ball. I would have stayed, but others made a command decision to get me out of there and seek medical treatment. I’m happy to report no fever this morning, and the swelling has gone down considerably.

FAST ZOMBIES SUCK – Meet the Stars

KarinCrighton443-676-2818 (2)As previously announced, Drunken Tentacle Productions’ first short film will be an adaptation of my short story “Fast Zombies Suck” (which you can listen to for free here). Filming begins in August. Today, you get to meet our stars.

Karin Crighton has been working on her zombie action plan almost as long as she’s been acting. A graduate of the Towson University theatre arts program, she performs with Iron Crow Theatre Company. Recent credits include The Soldier Dreams, California Suite, Swimming in the Shallows, and Sealed Fates.

Matthew Blazi has played iconic zombies in George Romero’s Land of the Dead and Survival of the Dead, but this will be his first time playing a zombie killer. A member of the Drunken Tentacle team, Matt is a father of two, and enjoys reading and NASCAR.

A Report From The Casting Couch

Director Jeff Heimbuch, Star Matthew Blazi, FX Director Mike Lombardo, and Key Grip J.F. Gonzalez

Director Jeff Heimbuch, Actor Matthew Blazi, Special Effects Designer Mike Lombardo, and Key Grip J.F. Gonzalez

This weekend, I worked a little bit on The Lost Level and the script for The Last Zombie: Before the After #2. But mostly, I worked in my role as executive producer of Fast Zombies Suck – the first film from Drunken Tentacle Productions. An executive producer basically does two things — finance and bankroll the majority of the project, and make sure all the trains are running on time.

FAST ZOMBIES SUCK – The Movie

DTlogo (2)In September 2009, I announced the formation of Drunken Tentacle Productions – a small, low-budget indie film company. We set up a Twitter page, offered a glimpse at our first production meeting, and engaged in this sort of nonsense, but otherwise, things have been quiet.

The truth (as hinted here) was that I couldn’t produce a movie while fighting Dorchester. But now that’s over, and I can focus on other things again.

Our first project is a short film adaptation of FAST ZOMBIES SUCK, starring Matt Blazi (Survival of the Dead). I’m an Executive Producer, as is Jeff Heimbuch, who is also directing. Mike Antonio is Assistant Director. Mike Lombardo will be handling special effects. And Associate Producer Dave Thomas will be handling digital effects. Filming begins later this year, and we will indeed be putting out a casting call for zombie extras. To stay up to date on the project, Like our new Facebook page or follow us on Twitter.

The Year of Ice Bat

We interrupt this Blog for a public service announcement from Ice Bat, renowned sidekick to Meteornotes, one of Brian Keene’s assistants.

‘Sup. Ice Bat here. I see that Keene took the pussy way out yesterday, talking all kinds of shit about “changing the game and taking it to the next level” rather than doing what everybody expected him to do and going to motherfucking war. Well, fuck that noise! I’m Ice Bat, bitches. 2010 sucked for me, too, and I’m all about owning 2011. Exhibit number one:

That’s Mike Lombardo. Used to run Reel Splatter Productions and was part of Keene’s Drunken Tentacle Productions. Now he’s my own personal swimming pool. It ain’t like I didn’t warn him. I told them, “I want a pilot episode of Dave Tasers America ready for release in 2011.” And then Keene was all like, “We don’t have the money. I was financing this production company, and I can’t finance it if I don’t have any money. Those fuckers owe me five figures! Ninety percent of my annual income is gone!” And then I was like, “Fuck you and your problems. Drunken Tentacle better get something made in 2011. I’m Ice Bat, bitch.” And then Lombardo said he wanted to go do special effects on some other horror movie. I wasn’t having none of that. So I sent this friendly reminder to Keene. Money or no money, him and his crew better get that television pilot made this year. 2011 is the year of Ice Bat. Sucker MC’s duck flat.

Official Minutes from the Drunken Tentacle Production Meeting

Drunken Tentacle Productions is the low-budget indie film production company which I helped found. If you are following us on Twitter then you know we had a production meeting last Friday to plan three simultaneous projects. Here are the official minutes.
