The Nuking of MySpace, Books-For-Troops II, and Other Stuff

I’d like to re-start the Books-For-Troops program. It ran strong for several years, but faltered last year due to the arrival of my newborn son and other factors. It was always a one-man job (well, two men, if you count Big Joe), and I’ve always intended to bring it back. But in order to make it work as well as the last time, I need contacts among the men and women serving our country—people who will enjoy the books and are willing to distribute them to their fellow soldiers, sailors, airmen, etc..

So, if you are currently an active duty or reservist member of any branch of our Armed Forces, and would like to receive free books from myself and other participating authors, please send your name and address to Big Joe at briankeene at live.com. There’s no catch. You serve, you get free books. (The 509th Logistics Fuels Flight Squadron and others will vouch for the program, if you like). Another note: if you are an author who would like to donate books for the program, please hold off from contacting us about it until we announce the program is functional again. At that point, we’ll be set up to receive books again.

Now, there are probably one or two of you out there who are reading the above paragraph and saying, “I’m not a member of the Armed Forces, but there is Brian’s email address. Now I can email him and ask him when he’s writing another zombie novel.” Please don’t do that. The email listed above is for business inquiries only (of which the Books For Troops program would be a part of). Which brings me to this:

As part of my ongoing effort to simplify my life and make more time for important things (like my family and writing) I have nuked my MySpace page. Hopefully, the 4,000 plus people who were following me there will find their way over here.

I’ve also updated the Contact Page. Please take a moment to peruse it, since many things have changed. Among them, you’ll notice that I’m no longer signing books through the mail. There are a number of reasons for this: time constraints (some days brought a dozen or more packages), bounced checks that were supposed to cover shipping, etc. If you already mailed books to sign and have not yet received them back in the mail, don’t worry. You’ll get them ASAP. But please note that for the foreseeable future, the sign-by-mail option has been discontinued.

As always, thanks for your understanding and patience.

    Brian,

You never cease to amaze me with your generosity. I wish I were a writer so I could contribute to this cool program. Please let me know if you need help one Saturday/Sunday boxing stuff up to mail out.

    Go Troops!

    p.s. – MySpace sucks anyway.
