Hollywood, Take 2

So, Ghoul has been out on DVD for a few months now. You can buy it here, catch a rerun on Chiller, or rent it via Redbox, etc. Some of you liked it. Some of you didn’t. I’m cool with both camps (except for the element of the ‘Didn’t Like It’ crowd who seem to think I personally made the movie and berate me about it on Facebook and Twitter. A note to those folks: I didn’t make the movie. I just wrote the book — which is currently available in paperback, Kindle, and Nook.)

Anyway, now Dark Hollow is gearing up for production (which will hopefully start soon). If one of your complaints about Ghoul was that it diverged from the book, then I hope you’ve ‘Liked’ the Dark Hollow Facebook page. If so, then you’ve probably seen by now that Raven Banner and director Paul Campion are staying true to the novel — Satyr penis, and all.

You’ve probably also seen how interactive they are, asking fans to chime in on casting suggestions, etc. And all the cool freebies they’ve been offering, like a high-resolution download of the movie poster.

If you haven’t seen these things, go ‘Like’ the page now.

And if you’re new to my work, Dark Hollow is currently available in paperback, Kindle, and Nook.

All the teaser posters have been excellent.

The book was good enough to have read twice so far, very much
    looking forward to the movie.

All the best Brian…you deserve it.

I watched ‘Ghoul’ with great anticipation because I enjoyed the book so much. I liked the movie but did not love the movie. I did however go back and reread the novel. Going over the source material, I realized that in my opinion the story and dialogue just works better as a book. I also realized it would have been difficult for any director to “get it all in” a 90 minute movie. This made me appreciate the movie a little more. Now I look forward to ‘Dark Hollow’ I think the story will be better suited to a motion picture format. We also need to remember that those of us who love to read hardly ever find a movie adaptation as rewarding as the novel it was spawned from. I can only think of a handful of movies that came close, and they still diverged from the original story.

I didn’t really care for Ghoul it came across more like a Hallmark movie than a horror movie as well as a half asses attempt at Stand by Me but with that said the fanboy in me loved it just seeing one of Brian’s books on the screen was cool. I cannot understand people who are unable to separate the author from the movie. IMHO Brian is one of the most accessible authors to his fans and his writing has give me hours of pleasure as well as some fucked up dreams and moments of really being scared so he deserves every penny he can get from these adaptations. I will continue to see these movies regardless of quality because in addition to buying Brian’s books its the least I can do to say thankyou.

What does Stephen King say about folks who dislike this books and think they were ruined by the movie? He points to the bookcase and says they weren’t ruined, they’re right there.

I liked the Ghoul movie. I thought it was good even if it was different from the book. I’m really looking forward to the Dark Hollow movie.

I wasn’t a fan of the changes that were made but I loved the elements that stayed true to the book. I’m definetly a fan of what the movie did for you. If more people had a chance to read ‘Sundancing’ they would have a different opinion on the movie. It was about time that you were treated like you should have been all along. Love what you do man.

I haven’t seen Ghoul yet, but that’s because I want to read it first. Which reminds me…I know you’ve updated this somewhere, so I should already know the answer, but is the new Nook version (or Deadite paperback version) of City of the Dead coming out later in 2013?

Ghoul and Dark Hollow are two of my faves, but if I had to pick a favorite…Dark Hollow! The poster looks great and I can’t wait to check it out. Let the hater’s hate. And how about we do a Dark Hollow comic? You know you want to.

I can’t wait to see Dark Hollow brought to the silver screen. I rented Devil’s Rock the other day and enjoyed it quite a bit. I got a kick out of the use of Ob as an evil deity called on to bind a demon and had meant to stop by here and mention it. I didn’t realize that the director was Pal Campion, and now I’m really hopeful for the direction and tone of Dark Hollow.
