Later this week, paperback editions of both Earthworm Gods and Earthworm Gods: Selected Scenes From the End of the World will go on sale. I’ve seen some confusion about these titles among some newer readers, so what follows is a primer on the Worms Trilogy.
The Conqueror Worms was originally published in hardcover as Earthworm Gods. When it was published in paperback, the paperback publisher changed the title to The Conqueror Worms (which I’ve always hated) and then added insult to injury by giving it a terrible cover.
For its re-release in paperback from my new publisher, I’ve changed the title back to Earthworm Gods. The text is a little bit different from The Conqueror Worms. There is a brief scene that was cut from the original, and there is a quite lengthy afterword that discusses the novel’s history, creation, influence, etc. Indeed, pre-reader Tod Clark is on record as saying, quote: “That new afterword is worth the price alone. Every fan should read that.”
Earthworm Gods: Selected Scenes From the End of the World is a separate book featuring 32 short stories set in the world of Earthworm Gods. It was only previously available as a limited edition hardcover, so this will be the first time most of you will be able to read it.
So, the trilogy is:
1. EARTHWORM GODS (previously published as THE CONQUEROR WORMS)
2. EARTHWORM GODS II: DELUGE
3. EARTHWORM GODS: SELECTED SCENES FROM THE END OF THE WORLD
Hope that clarifies everything!
