Legendary New York Times best-selling author John Skipp, says:
“Just finished THE DAMNED HIGHWAY, by Brian Keene and Nick Mamatas. It is brilliant, hilarious, important, and a modern counterculture milestone that harkens back to when Hunter S. Thompson WAS one of the most important writers on Earth. Will review the fuck out of this, as soon as someone points me to the right venue. WELL DONE, MOTHERFUCKERS!!!”
He’s right, of course. Buy one here.

Congrats on the awesome write-up!
I suggest everyone buy TWO copies! If my calculations are correct, this will double the enjoyment.
Still have not read this! Waiting not so patiently for my copy to arrive in the mail. Will go right to the top of my TBR mountain.
Well done, indeed.
Brian,
You know I always buy everything of yours, but I will admit I didn’t get this one because (and I’ll duck here before you throw something at me) while I know who Hunter S. Thompson is, I haven’t read his work. So I’m curious – do you still think I’d enjoy this book without prior knowledge of Thompson? Thanks.
~Craig
I think you’d enjoy it. Some of the jokes might be lost on you, but you’d enjoy the overall book.
Santa’s fat ass better drop that under the tree for me!
Dear Craig –
Actually, I highly recommend that you grab a used copy of FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS and/or FEAR AND LOATHING ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL ’72. If you don’t read ‘em first — and you should — then you’ll definitely be burning to read ‘em after.
You want to know about Hunter S. Thompson. In many ways, he made guys like Keene and I possible. You’ll know why when you read him.
And armed with that dangerous knowledge, you’ll totally see THE DAMNED HIGHWAY for the impeccable mindfuck masterpiece that it is. Otherwise, you’ll have tons of fun, but you’re definitely short-changing yourself.
Yer advisory pal,
Skipp
Because for the first time in nearly forever I have a little extra spendin’ money, I just went ahead and bought this off Amazon. Looking forward to it.
Sounds like a ringing endorsement. Gotta check this one out some time.
Definitely looking forward to checking this out now! dano http://www.danosongs.com
Well, you got one-up on me if you know the name Hunter Thompson. I never heard of him–until now.
I’m so busy working double shifts, I barely get any time to read anyway. I only just heard of Mary Rhinehart yesterday, who was a big deal mystery writer, when my supervisor mentioned her.
I’m more familiar with writers from my profession, like Tom Bouthillet, but he’s not popular. Not outside STEMI treatment anyway.
So now I’ll have to go search for the name Hunter Thompson–when I get more than 5 minutes to do so.
