Maelstrom is my collectible hardcover imprint through Thunderstorm Books. Each three-book set features a novel length work by me, a novella by me, and a novel length work by someone else I’ve hand-picked and think you’ll enjoy. The first set contained A Gathering of Crows, The Rising: Deliverance, and Kelli Owen’s debut novel Six Days. For full details on Maelstrom and what we hope to achieve with it, click here. If you are new to my work, I would urge you to read that. And if you are one of those people who take it personally and holler at me because you don’t like these pricey limited editions, then might I suggest you pre-order The Damned Highway, which is a brand-new novel and will be in stores this July as an affordable trade paperback?
For everyone else, this is your official warning that pre-orders for the second Maelstrom set are coming June 19th. If you want in, save your money now. Details:
A CONSPIRACY OF ONE by Brian Keene
Everyone has a darkest hour. For the employees of Big Bill’s Home Electronics, it comes when a crazed gunman barges into their store and opens fire. For Evan Fisher, it manifests as he tries to protect his family in the aftermath of a natural disaster. For Ward and Valerie, it is the imaginary friend who creeps through their daughter’s window at night. For Gina, a woman devoted to her husband, it rises with the dead. For the residents of a small Atlantic coastal town, it arrives from the sea with an amphibian croak. And for burned-out horror novelist Brian Keene, it is echoed in the whispers of a ghost.
Thunderstorm Books is proud to present this new collection, featuring over 80,000 words of short fiction and novellas, including “Halves”, “The House of Ushers”, “Scratch”, “I Sing A New Psalm”, “The Girl on the Glider” and many more, as well as extensive story notes. And in keeping with Maelstrom’s exclusivity promise, this will be the only edition of this book ever printed, thus making it a true collectible.
ALONE by Brian Keene
When Daniel Miller wakes up one morning, something has gone terribly wrong. The power is out. The phones are dead. The house is silent. The street is shrouded in fog. Both his partner and their adopted daughter are missing. So are their neighbors. And so is everyone else in the world. Daniel Miller is the last person left on Earth.
…or is he?
Thunderstorm Books is proud to present this all-new, original novella of quiet, supernatural horror from Brian Keene.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN MIDNIGHT by John Urbancik
Welcome to Midnight, City of Night. This is the city tucked between two mountains in such a way the sun never shines here. This is the home to men like Mr. Zero and Uncle Knuckles. This is a place where more roads lead in than out. When Thomas Midnight makes a wrong turn and ends up trapped in the City of Night, he’ll do whatever it takes to get out. But the city’s grip around him tightens, and word has already spread that he’s arrived. A brand-new full length novel from one of the most exciting new voices in dark fantasy.

Shit Ill be in the field starting june 2nd..oh well
I just finished a gathering of crows and read the tease at the end about entombed, where is it? It said feb, 2011, hmmm. Well if anyone knows let me in on it. I don’t do facebook or twitter very well,(showing my age). I really want to read that one. My son and I are big fans, especially the zombie stuff. Thanks
Pat: Entombed was released in hardcover last month and instantly sold out. You can find copies on eBay, however, and possibly here as well: http://www.briankeene.com/forum/index.php?board=6.0
The first round of Maelstrom books were phenomenal. I can’t wait for round two.
will the pricing be similar?
Yep. Same price as the first set.
Can’t wait for this set! Will the first set be reprinted in any way? I totally missed it before it was sold out. Thanks!
Tom: A Gathering of Crows is available in paperback (see the link over in the sidebar on the right). The Rising: Deliverance will be reprinted in 4 more years (as per the collectibility agreement offered with that set, in which we promised customers it wouldn’t be reprinted for 5 years). And Six Days will see reprinting elsewhere, eventually, I’m sure, as Kelli is starting to get a LOT of notice (and deservedly so).
Oh HELL YEAH!
How many sets will be available?
Jim: The print run will be 300. Although unlike last time, there will be no “guarantee” of availability the first 72 hours.
Brian,
Ever hear of Frank Kern?
he said people would bitch when he would sell things for 5 buck/20 bucks so fuck them and sell it for a good 8 grand ” AND now he is doing that”. This is a guy who brings in over a million a month.
I say good on you. Do your thing. You put out a Good /Great product. this is your lively hood so you do what you want and keep pumping out the good stuff. I mean people fuss of free these days. Whatever happened to loving someones generosity.. Ok enough Butt kissing.
Incredibly excited about this set.
Can someone remind me- will the books in set two be reprinted in paperback. I have to decide If I want to buy the next set or if I want to go back and buy the clickers series. Thanks.
This will be the only edition of A Conspiracy of One ever published.
cant wait
Brian: “The print run will be 300. Although unlike last time, there will be no “guarantee” of availability the first 72 hours.”
Does this mean that those of us who didn’t order the first set have to wait 3 days until we can pre-order?
sorry if this a stupid question, I just didn’t understand.
Steve: No, that has to do with a guarantee that was offered for the first book. I don’t remember the details, other than it was a time sensitive issue. I’m sure Paul can give you details.
OK Cool! Thank you Brian. I’m really looking forward to getting this!!!

Hi Brian, Hey all your books would make phenomenal movies. Who decides what books (if any) become movies? There aren’t many good horror movies made these days. It would make sense to take great horror stories such as ALL of yours and make them into movies.
