DELUGE – Behind the Scenes, or, ‘Eel Penis’

NOTE: This is a special supplement contains spoilers. If you have not yet read chapter 62, click here to do so.

Mark ‘Dezm’ Sylva, one of my long-time pre-readers, is very good at his job. He catches my errors and keeps my mythos straight. But occasionally, he gets carried away. Take this week’s chapter of Deluge, for example. The starfish-man has a tentacle for a penis. Originally, he was just supposed to have a regular penis. But that wasn’t good enough for Dezm. See his notes, diagrams, and the accompanying email, below:

“We get monster penis in Ghoul, Dark Hollow, Urban Gothic, and Castaways. We don’t need more. Hell, if it’s got a starfish as a head why not put a moray eel or electric eel between it’s legs. I can see an electric eel darting out and biting down on it’s victim to electrocute it to give the starfish head time to do it’s job. Too much? I can’t believe I’m writing up a correction about monster dicks.

That looks like a dinosaur penis or something i’d have drawn in fourth grade. I’m always a fan of the threateningly large human penis that chalenges my masculinity. As men inadequecy is scary. Not that I have any fear. Ah hem.

Haha, Dez raised a good point. You should incorporate more monster vaginas. A certain scene from Bryan Smith’s Depraved comes to mind as I say that, lol.

What, it was Dezm that came up with the tentacle penis? Now I feel like a mook with my comment on the Deluge, chapter 62 post. Well, all I can type is, thanks Dezm. Looking back (hindsight is so great), Dezm is correct, you have had the giant penis in your previous novels, so the tentacle is an interesting change. Still, great writing on your part. And this shows that both you and Dezm are truly sick fuckers. Thank the Universe for that.

Rhio2k: Not sure if you mean in my work or within the genre overall, but I can think of examples of female monster propagate the species in both.

I’m not quite sure how I managed to avoid the giant monster eel penis, but it was the other stuff that drew my attention. ‘McCann screamed’ – Again? Well caught. Hard to spot when it’s your own work and you’ve been through it a million gazillion times. A fresh pair of eyes can make all the difference. Pre-readers are invaluable.

perhaps the monstrosity is inspired by Laymon’s “Beast House” trilogy? Regardless I love the creativity you put into your own Mythos (i.e. the 13) and have enjoyed all of your novels thus far (I’ve read them all!)
