Over the past few weeks, I’ve been racing deadlines on a number of projects, including Entombed (a novel for Leisure), issue #4 and #5 of The Last Zombie, a demonic possession novella featuring Levi Stoltzfus, my next column for Shroud Magazine, and two separate, single-issue comics for DC Comics (neither of which I can say any more about for now).
Because of this, Deluge has fallen to the wayside. It will most likely be another week or two before I can return to it. While I apologize for that, I’d also remind you that Deluge is a side-project, a way of not only offering you something free, but of also giving you a glimpse into my creative process. The chapters of Deluge posted online are as close to one of my first drafts as you’ll ever see. Sadly, like other first drafts in progress, the work is often put aside or on the back-burner when paying work or other obligations come along.
The good news is that one of the projects for DC will be finished today, and Entombed, which was finished until I got mad at the last 30,000 or so words and deleted them, should be finished next week. The next Shroud column can be written in a day, and by next week’s end, I should be able to focus on the other DC project and those two issues of The Last Zombie. Once those are out of the way, I can return to Deluge, while also finishing up that novella and starting the next novel, Hole In The World.

Take your time, we know you are not a machine, even if you are forced to work like one sometimes. I know all your fans are thankful for Deluge, and honestly if someone is complaining about the time frame; 1, that guys an asshole and 2, that person is incapable of being made happy by you are half off hooker night at their favorite bar. I have been a huge fan of yours since The Rising, and you have only shown me why every time you release a novel. Thank you very much Mr. Keene.
DC comics? nice.
Hey man, no need to explain. You gotta prioritize and anyone who disagrees with the rationale of putting the paying gigs first is not worth even commenting on. It’s been awhile since I left a note here for you, but I’m still following your work and I’m looking forward to the new stuff. Take it easy.

I can wait forever. Haven’t even read Deluge, yet. Just wondering what happened to Vanishing Point. Hole in the World is such a cool name for a book.
Hey man, do what you gotta do. I agree with Michael above. We love you Brian. Keep on dude! I have been a fan since The Rising as well and wish you the best.
You do too much for us already!
I too haven’t read any of Deluge, I think it will be neat to paste the online version together when it’s all up and then compare it to the ‘revised’ version when it comes out in print.
Isn’t Vanishing Point like still 6-12months away from release?, I don’t know anything about the story but I think Brian mentioned in a previous update that Bantam were publishing it as a TPB.
I love these writing update things though, I mean Brian lets us in on 90% of whats hes working on, even stuff that’s not due out for a couple of years in some cases, compare that to a lot of other authors and the only time you can to know what they are working on is when their publishers decides it’s time to start promoting the book.
Damn you are working your ass off, please push Deluge off to the side and try to get in a break somewhere.
Brian,
The FUKU wil always be waiting for new material, whenever and however you decide to put it out there!
Take care!
Tony
Gosh, maybe if you weren’t such a HERB, you’d be able to do all that AND write Deluge.
Seriously, though… your work ethic makes me sick, dude. I have ten years before I retire from the military and I hope to sweet baby Jesus I can cultivate that kind of self-discipline in time to jump into full-time writing by then.
Ouch! I know deleting those 30,000 words or so wasn’t an easy task, but hopefully whatever you used to fill in those missing spaces was more worthy and more readable.
Damn, it’s no wonder you’re probably the hardest working writer out there today. I sure do hope you can get a break somewhere along the way though. Plenty of rest should do you good and get you ready for the next phase of your work.
Thanks for the heads-up on this.
Being not very stress-resistant myself, I can only say…take as much time as you need. I’m grateful for anything you put out (especially for free) but please…don’t feel rushed, eh?
Hey Brian,
I totally understand and appreciate the heads up on the free online novel. So instead of waiting and being bored like a nun in a vibrator field, I will start over reading Deluge from the top hehe. We all know your busy bro, and can’t wait for all those projects to hit us.
Brian
Don’t worry about it. The delay in getting it out has made me realize that I want to finish it in book form, since I will have to buy it to go with the other..LOL!! Take your time and remember that you enjoy what you do and that makes it worth the wait for the rest of us.
Cool.. It will be worth the wait..
As all have already said. Take your time bruh, you give us a great gift by writing Deluge and letting us read it for FREE! So do what you gotta do and we fans will not turn our back on you. YA DIG?
B.K
Please hurry, I finished Ghost Walk last night, which leaves me with only The Terminal left until I’ve read all your published novels. Not having a B.K novel to read is most upsetting. Love your work man, outstanding stuff.
Hole in the World!! That sounds AWESOME! I can’t wait for this. No idea what it is but.. oh man.. so many possibilities.. Hopefully something going on deep, deep underground..
I waited for a while to read this serial. And I’m glad that I did because getting as much story in as possible was awesome. But alas it has been a while since a new addition has dropped. But we understand. Even a literary deity, such as the one we love and adore, had other obligations in life. So while we feel abandoned on this front, there are many more fronts our deity had been giving onto us. For his is the power and the glory of the Keenedom. So we need to be patient my brothers and sisters, for the the good Keene giveth and he taketh away. ALL HAIL KEENE.
